Fill The Bus

WNC is teaming up with Lamers Bus Company, the Waunakee Community School District, Fortifi Bank, and Peace Lutheran Church to collect new school supplies for local students!  Throughout the month of August, look for the Lamers school bus parked around town and help us fill it full of back to school items that will bring excitement and smiles to over 150 students as they get ready to start a new school year!

WNC is always looking for ways to partner with local businesses, churches, schools, groups, and individuals to provide unique and fun programs for our clients.

Annual Program Calendar

Our annual program calendar below includes all of the major programs WNC runs every year with different partners in our community. We hope this information helps you find a place you may wish to get involved. If you do not find anything that specifically interests you, or are unsure what you want to do, please contact us and we will work with you to find a unique way for you or your organization to partner with WNC to help our neighbors.

Christmas Lights Collection Drive - During this drive, WNC collects any holiday lights that are no longer working and recycles them for funds to support our year-long programs.

Cord Recycling - Recycle those electrical cords.  Bring in old electrical cords, TV and computer cords, and unused chargers.  Cut the cord off of that appliance that no longer works and bring those in too!

English Group - flyer - In partnership with the Waunakee Community School District and the Waunakee Public Library, WNC English Group is a free class hosted by volunteers to promote
literacy with our community members. Group members represent diverse backgrounds, cultures, experiences, and communication skills, from just beginning to use English-- to advanced and comfortably immersed. Childcare is provided!

Village Health, Activities & Energy Fair - WNC participates with a booth at the Village Health, Activities & Energy Fair, held the first Saturday of March at the Village Center from 9a-1p. We typically need volunteers to cover shifts.

Big Waunabowskee Bowlathon – WNC's fun-filled spring fundraising event is a 16-team Bowlathon at WaunaBowl. We annually will need corporate sponsors, team captains and bowlers, as well as those willing to pledge to the bowlers to raise money for WNC families and seniors in need. We can also use volunteers to help with coordination and running the event.

Garage Sale - During the Waunakee Garage Sale weekend, WNC holds their own sale thanks to wonderful donations from our community. We need many volunteers to help take in donations, setup the sale, run the sale, and clean up and sort through donations after the sale. WNC also provides opportunities for those having their own garage sale to donate unsold items from their sale to our organization.

School Supplies Drive - WNC assists the Waunakee School District to collect, assemble, and distribute donations of school supplies before school starts each fall. Prior to our Fill the Bus Campaign in August, WNC collects gently used supplies from students as the school year ends in June for use the next fall.  Volunteer assembly days for school supplies collected occur during each of the summer months and offer a great opportunity for children to participate in supporting WNC.

Build a Bed- This program is designed to give someone a good night’s sleep! Donate money to provide a bed to someone in need. Through our partnership with Waunakee Furniture ETC, your donation will provide a full bed to a community member in need.

Fill the Bus - Flyer  - FWNC teams with Lamers Bus Company and the Waunakee Community School District to collect new school supplies for local children.  Throughout the month of August, look for the Lamer's school bus parked at area businesses and help us fill it full of back to school items that will bring excitement and smiles to approximately 200 students as they get ready to start a new school year!  For this event WNC is also looking for partners to help provide items on the school supply lists, especially more expensive items such as calculators and backpacks. We also would not be able to fulfill the needs without the generous donations of miscellaneous supplies from our community members. Volunteer assembly is also needed as we organize the supplies received, and is  great way for children to participate in supporting WNC. image

National Night Out Awareness Event - Coordinated by the Waunakee Police Department, this national awareness event for safety is a great community night for the family. We need volunteers to help with our booth at this event annually.

Annual Community Fair - Meetings are offered for existing and new clients to gather to hear about new or changed policies and procedures, as well as to provide opportunities to register to receive services for the next school year. We appreciate help from partners to provide items for the meeting and for our clients (such as water, phone cards, pens, etc.). We also need volunteers to help with client registration, and our largest client shopping day of the year!

Diaper & Laundry Soap Drive - This annual donation drive provides us with the hundreds of containers of laundry soap and packages of diapers we need for our clients for a full year. We need community partners to be donation drop-off locations throughout Waunakee, as well as partners to hold collections for us with their employees, school, church, group, sporting events or meetings. We also need volunteers to help us with the delivery and pick-up of our donation bins and donated items.

Moonlight Masquerade Mash - Join us for a festive night of family fun!  This seasonal event includes a Pumpkin Carving Contest, Kid’s Costume Parade, Dinner Buffet, Basket Raffle, and a rooftop viewing of Monsters,  Inc!

Thanksgiving Meal - WNC Partners with Taher to provide Thanksgiving Meals to community neighbors.  Partners can provide extra items to give with the meals, cards, coupons, decorations.

Cocoa Mocha Event - Created by 4th grade students at Arboretum Elementary School, this event is now held annually at First National Bank, and is a fund raiser for WNC. The students do all of the planning and marketing, as well as provide all the volunteers for a morning of cocoa, mocha, and coffee sales, featuring beverages provided by MNM's Coffeehouse.  Additional partners are always welcome to join this event.

Winning Wednesdays at Papa Murphy's - Papa Murphy’s Pizza partners with WNC in November to bring you Winning Wednesdays!  When you purchase a delicious take and bake pizza from Papa Murphy’s on any Wednesday during the month of November, 10% of your purchase is donated back to the WNC to support our programs and local families!

Horrible Holiday Sweater Shuffle 5K EventOur newest annual fundraising event, the Horrible Holiday Sweater Shuffle Event is a great way to have a lot of active fun while helping a great cause right after the Thanksgiving Holiday!  In addition to the run/walk, there are Merry Maker Team Challenge activities, photo fun stations, and many more family fun activities!  This 5K is a blast and one event you do not want to miss!

Adopt-a-Family at Christmas – Families, classrooms, churches, businesses and groups adopt WNC families or seniors who benefit from a helping hand during the holidays.  Each group purchases items from their adopted family's lists, wraps the items, and then brings them to WNC for distribution right before the holidays.

Christmas Meal - This event is the second of WNC’s annual free SHARE meals for families and seniors in need. WNC partners provide extra items for our clients’ meals, which can be anything from food, to cards, to coupons, to gift cards.  We, of course, could not provide this program without the many volunteers who work to assemble meals and deliver meals, or without the hundreds of donors that provide funds to cover the cost of the meals.

Children's Holiday Shopping - Each year the children of registered WNC families "shop" for free NEW gifts for their parents or caregivers.  Volunteers help participating children choose the presents, and additional volunteers wrap the presents and keep our gift tables stocked with items to choose from.
